as though he may have had some previous experience with phones from Australia. Australia is the only country that has CDMA.. and CDMA phones do NOT have sim cards, hence they don't work on any Digital or GSM networks.
Maybe he has had a 'free' phone from another customer, and found it doesn't work too well!
