definatley spend more time in Legian as for them, much more to do. Although I do like Sanur it is very quiet and I feel more for the older crowd. Having said that, it is not too far or too expensive to grab transport to Kuta, Legian or Denpasar for shopping etc. and as you are footing the bill for the holiday you have to have a say in the itinery as well. Maybe do as we have just done and get everyone together and work out what you all want to do on the trip. Even if you do stay in Sanur you can still do day trips to Safari Park, Zoo etc. We have opted for 7 nights in Legain and 7 in Ubud but my kids are 24, 22, 19 and 16 and the three oldest are bringing partners so Ubud will be a great relaxing time for us.
Good luck with what you decide, this is only my opinion, in the end it is up to all of you to work out what you want.
