While my family and I were there last july, we met Putu who approached us on the main street and gave us his balinese cooking brochure.
My 2 teenage boys and I took him up on his offer and a few days later after visiting the local market, we were learning to cook authentic Balinese food in his kitchen.
Apart from learning alot about Balinese food, we also got an insight into just how poor the local people are - the houses in the streets off the main road show another aspect to Bali that we were aware of, but hadn't had a first hand experience of.
The chain of eating was also an eye opener - what we didn't eat was given to his sons, followed by the cats who competed with the chickens for the rest. (like to see my 2 indulged moggies eating chilli infused scraps).
This is NOT the experience that Casa Luna offers - on the other hand it was only $20 and we got much more from the experience than a delicious lunch and some recipes to take home.
A couple of days later Putu (still hawking his brochures) came across my son and I laden down with drinks, chips etc waiting for a bemo.
He kindly offered us a lift on his motorbike and added another memorable event to my son's bali experience. The 3 of us plus our provisions was an awesome sight!
I hope that you meet up with Putu in Lovina and enjoy his cooking classes.
