It has been said that the safest place to change money in Bali is anywhere in Ubud. Small village = no place to hide for slick tricksters, but always be alert anywhere!
* The clothing shop next to Ary's Warung in main the street & the photo shops towards the supermarket are reliable.
* The two shops on west side of Monkey Forest road seem to have best rates. - Try to get currency in Rp50,000 notes or larger.
* We have used the Jineng Tourist Service which also includes a money changer in their shop at 22X Hanoman Street, Padanglegal which is on the high side of Ubud. Any driver will find it for you. There are two cheerful young ladies there who are reliable, honest and very helpful with information. Ph (62-361)976 488.
* Another one is near the Ubud Village Hotel, on the same side about 3 doors up the hill. Beware of the Internet shop near here. It is slowwww, drops out continually and the clock keeps ticking, to the delight no doubt of the aggressive owner. Beware also of the Three Brothers shop on the opposite side of the road who is a persistent cheat.
* The Post Office (or is it the telephone shop?) about 100 paces down from the football pitch on Monkey Forrest Road is reliable too.
* If you're staying at or near the Tjamphuan there is a reliable money changer in the little shop opposite.
* At the top of Jl Hanoman there is a little handbag shop and you can safely change money there also. It's up a fairly steep entry ramp.
* The Ubud Music shop in the main street opposite Cafe Lotus and one at the top end of Monkey Forest Road are reliable.
* Purpa Silver on Monkey Forest Road will also reliably change your money.
