Day 14 (Again I think)
We awoke to the realism that we are here for another day or so, very depressing, however I am ready to go home, suprisingly when I get home I want to go back and even today I work out what I would be doing in Bali now!!!!!
I come to my senses and realise that the amount of stuff that I have brought I need a new very very large suitcase, ooppss sorry did I say the amount of stuff that I brought I meant that my dear Wife (Evil evil shopper) has purchased, of course we need ALL the things (She is watching me type so I had to put that in)
So off we go to the shops to get a new bag, we venture to Carrefour first for a look, nothing there however we did find 2 things, in the book store on the lower floor next to KFC do yourself a favour and go in and order a crunchy coffee, it is an iced coffee with a difference, the greatest taste sensation you will ever have. The second thing is that my wife still has Bali Butt (ha ha ha) and needs to go urgently......
Upon my dearest making it to the loo and back she is laughing and having one of our friends check out her butt for something, me being the man who likes to look at her butt as well wonder what is going on, she tells me that there is no Toilet Paper in the toilets at Carrefour nor is there a holder for same, there was however a hose and somewhere to wash yourslef, yes the dreaded Bali Enema!!!! Take toilet paper if you go to Carrefour, or don't tell someone you are going with and have a good laugh at their expense.
Anyway we ventured up to Centro and purchased a wonderful bag, yep a wonderful bag of Krispy Kremes first. We then went into Centro and brought a luggage bag, now this thing was a bag it would hold six kids and a dog through customs.
We duly jumped in the bag set ourselves at the top of the hill aimed ourselves at the Melasti and rode the bag home!!! Not really we caught a taxi but the suitcase was an option just didn't have my bag license.
We went back to the Melasti had a swim and cocktails and Bintang for a while, then had to start the packing experience..... boy wasn't it fun, we had mysteriously hidden things around the room after shopping trips, it would have been OK if we knew where we put things, with a bit off pushing, shoving and bending we both managed to pack everything into the bags.
Now there are 4 of us and 4 bags so that means we can take 80kgs of luggage back..... this feels like 468.5kgs, I may be in a spot of bother, oh well see what happens.
We have dinner just the 4 of us at La Monde just up from Poco Loco, it was nice without being good, but they had a Roosters banner over the bar so it was a great place.
Ventured back to the Melasti for a night time swim realising that we will be leaving tomorrow night.
Last Day in Paradise...
Awoke a bit later this morning great sleep, believe it or not we were actually packed, but still managed to go for a walk all around the city and pick up some more last second shopping, oh man am I ever a fool.
Spent the rest of the afternoon/evening at the Melasti saying good bye to Agung the room cleaner and Wayan the Security Guard.
Got picked up by the shuttle about 9.40pm oh man we all had some luggage!!!!! Got to Denpasar airport and checked everything in....
I threw the big bag on the scales first it weighed about 26kgs... oh dear I thought, he moved that one off the scales then we threw all 3 others on at once, I was feeling a tad nervous to say the least bewcause the other bags were the heavy ones...
By some miracle he wrote down some figures on paper, pretended to add them up smiled and said 78.5kgs no problems, NO PROBLEMS, go son, I wanted to kiss him for his inability at maths......
Armed with the knoowledge that I had 78.5kgs of luggage (more like 88.5) I sat with a smile, spent the last of my Ruppiah on cold drinks and boarded the plane to leave Bali with a fun filled adventure that has sparked my desire to come back again.
The plane managed to land in Sydney, got through Customs no dramas, thought I would have a hell of a time in Quarantine however lost nothing of my items, I was the only one of our group that did not!!!
Ventured home and can honestly say I miss Bali each and every day, probably more when I go back to work on Monday!!!!
To summarise my trip....
1) Make sure you try different foods whilst there, food is part of the experience.
2) Walk around a lot, don't take Taxi's, I walked most places, just seeing and talking to the people is what made the trip memorable
3) If invited to a village make sure you go, this is the real Bali, an experience I will never forget.
4) You probably will get sick at some stage, who cares that also is part of the memorable fun you can have!!!!!
5) Go to the country, whilst the city is fun, the country is the best Bali has to offer.
Other things,
Eat the ribs at Glory's
Buy all your wooden artifacts from MARKETS like Ubud and Tanah Lot
Do the tourist things but also do some impromptu things
A great Tailors is Merry Collection just up from Melasti
Eat a Krispy Kreme donut
Be nice to people they love chatter
Take toilet paper to Carrefour (at least for yourself)
Eat at Jimbaran Bay on the beach at least once, breathtaking sunset
I will add some more things as I remember them, thanks for reading and I will write some more of the adventures as I remember them.
