Seeing all the questions about restaurants I thought I would repost my list. For some reason the old link is gone.
It's a year out of date and I know a lot happens in a year.
If you have any new ones, if reviews have changed or if any have closed please post and I will amend it. I am going back in a few weeks so will check some out (of course).
RESTAURANTS
Here is my list of restaurant compiled from personal visits and comments on the forum. Those I have visited are marked with a *. Those I visited in 2005/6 are marked with a #. My comments are in (brackets). Other comments are from the www.balitravelforum.com (thanks everyone). I hope it is of use to you. Lynne.
TUBAN

Sumo wrestling??? and Limbo dancing. Surf crowd
Atmosphere Restaurant. Discovery Plaza. (Out back. Building next to Discovery Plaza.
It is fantastic! Food is great and so are the prices and service. Booked a day bed on the 2nd floor You can often get discount vouchers as you walk into the Discovery Mall, or when you go up the escalators. The waitresses were efficient, but didn't hover. Gave us lots of privacy! We took about 100 photos of the sunset!
#A&W. Discovery Plaza. We went twice for the waffles. YUM. Big freshly made waffle with icecream for 14.000. I don't eat many sweet things in Bali but this is a must. Also in Denpasar Ramayana. Sort of like McDonalds with hamburgers etc.
Black Canyon At the back of Discovery Plaza (Tuban). Overlooks the beach. Very busy. Large menu choice. I walked down the beach from Legian on dusk which was nice. I had a Thai meal (can't remember what) which was delicious but not real big (only 25.000 I think).
# Bubba Gump Prawn Co- to the left of Waterbom. Opposite Bali Garden Hotel. -from the movie- Forest Gump. (excellent prawn meals. A few other choices. Large prawn meal 74.000. Delicious. Drinks VERY expensive. Has movie memorabilia. Well worth a visit.)
Celcius - Centro Department Store, Discovery Mall. Celcius is at the back corner of Centro, looking out over the ocean. A lovely balcony, so if you can get there to watch the sunset. The most amazing Pad Thai I have ever tasted, and Chicken Breast with vegies. Service was very professional. Total 110,000 ($15).

Dewi-Sri on kartika plaza in Tuban. This place looked pretty dodgy from the road, but it was the best seafood we had while in Bali.
Impala's in Tuban: Huge serves, reasonable prices and delicious.
Kunyit, Part of and out the front of Hotel Santika. For 118000 rupiah for 2 people we could choose a 5 or 6 course meal of either indonesian or balinese. Great service, they explained every course. Food was out of this world. Authentic Balinese and Indo cuisine. Best 'Rijsttafel' in Indonesia.

They had- Mini spring rolls, Mini quiches, Satay sticks, Club sandwiches, Tiny toasted bread with cheese basil and tomato, Shortbread, Custard puffs, Fruit kebabs, mini lemon tarts, like lemon meringue pie, Tea,coffee. Alley Cat. Lane that runs from Poppies 1 south (across from Un's). Small warung with 4 tables. 2 tables are big so you can share. Run by a Pom. I had a side salad (6.000) and chicken Korma (19.000). Both were very good. It gets very busy.
If you are a big eater you can order the big meal (can't remember what it was called but I wrote down what's in it). It costs 95.000 and if you finish it you get your photo on the wall.

Ketupat Jl raya 109 Kuta. Behind Jonathan Gallery. Authentic indo. Indonesian dishes for people who have gone way beyond ever wanting to see a nasi goreng again. Ketupat Best Indo food and so much variety, set in a lovely setting around a pool and with bales to sit in. A Shangri-La and an oasis set around a pool with private and open small and larger alcoves scattered around the perimeter of the restaurant. A very busy restaurant with sufficient staff to attend to your every need. We sat inside the restaurant and occasionally glanced at the many other parties enjoying the fine Indonesian cuisine Advertised as genuine Indonesian food. Eextensive menu with photos of dishes. Appetizers 18,000 and mains from 35,000 to 90,000. Total bill for 4 was 580,000 I would certainly return to this restaurant each visit to Bali and would call it the find of our trip

Excellent restaurant with great staff & service. Octopus salad. Chocolate milkshake with a piece of pineapple & cherry on the lip of the glass. The spaghetti was excellent which should be by the name of the place.
Mades Warung Dua Red snapper, spag bol.
MAMAS. Jl Legian. Great restaurant with a German theme. The best meal there is the pork knuckle. Its a meal & a half. As it is opened 24hrs you can meet some very interesting people at 4am after the discos & other bars have shut. The schnitzel was served with chosen sides of mash, rice and cabbage. A tender beef stroganoff was the other dish. And some garlic bread to start off with. Total 136,000 ($18).
MINI SEAFOOD. Jl Legian. Just down from the Maccaroni & next door to the famous Mini Bar.
Excellent seafood in a very large restaurant with good surroundings. I always have it steamed as when they barbecue it I find it very dry. Choose your seafood, but they have one price per item (i.e. all snappers are 1 price, all prawns are 1 price, etc. it doesn't go on weight, so pick out the biggest one). We selected 2 large snappers, 4 HUGE prawns, and a large plate full of mussels. They were BBQd for us and we chose some authentic balinese rice dishes and vegetable dishes to accompany. Along with quiet a few bintangs and wines. Total 300,000 ($41). Not bad for a seafood feast.

Bali Bagus- Jln Padma Utara ( Southern end) A new restaurant , with local paintings adorning the walls. A very fresh and clean décor and very well patronized place. Staff very attentive on arrival and that was the best part of our dining experience. About 20 minutes after ordering our meal we were asked if we would like desert . Fairly soon after that our meals arrived. Staff slow but it was busy. An interesting menu with enough choices of basic international or Indonesian choices. The food presentations were simple and in keeping with the atmosphere of the restaurant They also offer a choice of breakfasts. I will certainly give it another try as I believe it is a place with potential Mains from 35,000 Happy hour is between 6 & 8.30

The brown bread was actually purple (I think they just dye it) LOL but it tasted good, especially with the home made pineapple ad ginger jam. YUM- beats that bright red jelly stuff you get at most places.
Legends- Jln Sahadewa Legian Can be both busy and quiet depending on the time of day and the occasion. Frangipani trees growing in the mid open air area in the center of the restaurant. SEMINYAK/KEROBOKAN
Aurora On Jalan Laksmana, Oberoi. Seminyak
Have had the degustation menu twice - US chef (Garfield)imports all meats and the quality is amazing.....one of the best meals I have had anywhere in the world. Open for dinner, don't know if they are open for lunch yet. A cheaper alternative is the upstairs tapas bar, but we haven't tried that yet - intersted if you do try it to hear what it is like. Also have a great wine menu - we enjoy some excellent red wines and the local waiter (Daniel) is top-notch. Good luck and happy eating - this surpasses La Lucc and the Living Room too!
Now this is one for a special evening out - all imported meats, huge wine list and sensational food.

Chicken Teriyaki in a pastry case, Crab Balls, Calamari, Seafood Soup, Beef Stew. Total 177,00 ($24). You can't leave this place without taking some of their cakes. This was great. It is quite big (double the price of other entrees) at 45.000rp. We had lamb mechoui and tuna mechoui which were both delicious plus 3 lemon squash. YUM. Fresh lemon with palm sugar to sweeten. Plus 1 cappuccino. Total 236.900 including 15% tax and service. $31. I'm glad the taxi driver knew it as the sign outside the restaurant is quite small. It's opposite Lotus something (Garden?).)
We chose Feta & Spinach pastries, Chicken pastries, Lamb & Vegetable Stew, Chicken & Vegetable Stew. The stews are slow-cooked so the meat just falls apart. Total 300,000 ($41). This was with quiet a few drinks.
Kin Khao (Thai) Jl Raya Seminyak 732-153
Good service, cheap
# Ku De Ta Seminyak. Beautiful setting. Best food, relaxing, exciting atmosphere. Expensive. 1.1 million for 4 -food and cocktails. (Breakfast -similar prices to La Luciola. Bit sterile for me but food was good)
Kuni's a beautiful restaurant serving yummy Japanese for a bargain,
La Tabu Jl Petitenget, Seminyak. Around corner from La Luciola.
Opposite Petitenget temple. Cheap. 14.000 Mie Goreng (with chunks of chicken). Nice cake and iced tea, crepes, salads and banana splits. Seminyak. It is on the opposite side of the Petitenget temple from La Lucciola's ! Local stop for the expats.
Lanai (formerly Benny's). Near Jayakata Residence. On the beach. 300m north of Bali Niksoma. The greatest place to watch the world go by and now has an upstairs with great view of the beach. Breakfast. 29.000 for juice, fruit, eggs (any style) plus choice of 4 things (mushrooms, bacon, hash browns, tomato, sausages +?) plus brown bread or baguettes and coffee or tea. home made pineapple and ginger jam.
# La Luciola (for breakfast. I had one of the set menus (70.000) 'Sweet Tooth' which consisted of Juice or Granita (crushed ice drink), caramelized bananas with palm sugar and macadamia, cherry ricotta hotcakes with honeyed mascarpone cream, espresso coffee/tea. We all shared a serving of the best hashbrowns.)
La Sal - Spanish Tucked away along Jalan Drupadi. Lovely outdoor setting. A meal for 5 including drinks of wine, beer and sangria for about $30 each. Lovely tapas - crumbed mushrooms, garlic prawns, the best chicken croquettes, olives etc. Paella was a little bland, but the lamb dish was to rave about. We will certainly go back there again. The food was great.
La Sequenza No.4 Jl Laksmana - a tiny restaurant past Mykonos towards the beach end of the road and not as far as Paul's Place. About $30 for 2 courses and drinks. Complementary nibbles, very tasty and then onto the garlic snails in mushrooms, salmon and tuna tartare and the mains were steak and duck fettuccine.....absolutely delicious.
# Lemongrass Thai. Restaurant. 37 Jl Raya, Seminyak. Just after the Bintang Supermarket. (We had yellow curry, another meal, 2 servings of jasmine rice, 2 lemon squash and one desert. 145.000rp ($19). Bargain! The meals were not really big but we had enough. The setting is really lovely. Sydney standard.
Get there before 7.30 if you want to get in. Well worth it. I will return! )
Lola- French Restaurant. Jl Raya Kerobokan. AC- amongst rice paddies. Few km from Kerobokan Prison.
Loloan (near Bodyworks 2 - a bit more upmarket but absolutely fabulous),
Lotus Grill -Jl Laksmana. Also in in Ubud and 1 in Candi Dasa. Spring Rolls, Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng. Total 112,000 ($15). I'd definitely give it another go as the Mie Goreng was extremely good.
Lucky Day Pub and Cuisine (Opened Nov. 06) Ph (0361) 731 925
Jln Abimanyu, Seminyak Manager: Ketut Subagia
Mykonos Jl Laksmana. - favourite. Mixed Dip (consisting of homus and something else), Pita Bread, Lamb Medalians (that just melted away in your mouth, cooked to perfection), Grilled Chicken with vegies, Creme Caramel. Total 175,000 ($24). That is simply the best Greek food I ever ate, even in Greece and Melbourne. Absolutely fell in love with the place.
Panterai Greek restaurant. JL Raya just before the Bintang Supermarket. In my opinion heaps better than Mykonos. We had a large tasting plate with all sorts of dips, dolamades, meatballs, etc followed by a lamb dish and it was just lovely. There were a lot of Greek tourists eating there so I thought that must be an indication that the food was good.
Pizza Place (name?) (Tuesday night pizza club) Jl Laksmana (eat street). Great.
Paul's Place Jl Laksmana- something special. Boutique down stairs and restaurant upstairs. You actually sit on the roof top surrounded by candles, quite lovely. Spring Rolls, Calamari, Seafood Risotto, Pan fried Chicken, Black Rice Pudding, Cream Caramel. The meals were exquisite. The spring rolls were wrapped in thin rice paper, chock full of vegetables and served with a devine sweet dipping sauce. And the calamari was melt-in-your-mouth tender. The seafood risotto was just out of this world.
# Poco Loco, Legian. (A little pricey for what it is.Food OK. Nice toilets.)
CLOSED??? Punto & Basta Jl Laksmana.- this would have to be one of my favourites. We ate here twice last year and twice again this time On arrival you get complimentary brushetta and risotto balls. First visit - Calamari, Spinach Ravioli, Chicken with Advocado, Chocolate Coated Strawberries and a Mixed Dessert plate titled "Unconventional After Dinner Something" which consisted of 3 sample desserts. Total 220,000 ($30). Second visit - Spicy Calamari, Spinach Ravioli, Exotic Chicken, Tirimisu, Mixed Dessert Plate. Total 231,000 ($31).
Puri Seafood Bintang Lima. Jl Raya, Kerookan. Very cheap, good.
Reflections -opposite the Oberoi. Middle of the range prices. Food beautiful. Great atmosphere. Mie Goreng and Pork Ribs. Total 140,000 ($19). Complimentary Arak on arrival. The ribs were absolutely huge. Nice setting, service a bit slow.
Rickies- opp fabios, guaranteed to enjoy
#Rumours Jl Laksmana (eat street) Seminyak. 29.000- imported steak and veges. Desert 12.000. Great food and atmosphere. Bottle wine $25. Bar dancing 9.30- Rumours - Fresh Tuna Spring Rolls with 2 dipping sauces, Chicken Strips, Beef Stroganoff x 2, Blueberry Puff, Lime Sorbet. Total 120,00 ($16)
Sante Fe. Jl Dhyana Pura, Seminyak. (opp Bush Telegraph). Band, good.
Sate Bali near Bodyworks 2 on Jl Laksmana - Balinese), They offer a banquet menu, but we opted to choose our own dishes. The chef used to work at the Hyatt, so the quality is amazing and it's really lovely to eat authentic Balinese food. Chicken Ball Soup (which was out of this world), Mie Goren, Mixed Sate, Balinese Pancake stuffed with coconut, Black Rice Pudding. Total 255,000 ($35). Probably a bit pricey, but well worth it. Nyomen, the owner and chef, is taking over the property next door and opening a Thai restaurant next year. Oh, you also get complimentary nibblies and dips on arrival.
Sawasdeekha- Jl Werkudara 523, Seminyak. Near Jayakata Residence
Romantic. 6 indiv thatched huts, raised, with fountain and temple. Sit on Mattress with candles. Thai food served in coconuts. Food is excellent and good value , so was service, the atmosphere is really lovely and its rather romantic sitting in the candle lit huts, ideally you can book a massage, have a cocktail and enjoy a wonderful dinner all in one place. Highly recomend it.
Seaside Café (formerlyCafé Warna) food nice but the overall atmosphere is now stark and too minimalist.. Near Lanai (Benny's) . Next to Sand Resort. Treehouse in front.
Seaside Restaurant at Legian/Seminyak. Loved the food & service & position. We had 5 entrees, 3 mains, 1 dessert, 2 bintangs, 2 juices for A$35.00.
Sequenza restaurant in Jl Laksmana. The staff including the chef defected from Warung Taste - a couple of doors down some time ago and started this lovely restaurant. Sequenza is quite a long way down Jl Laksmana past Rumours, Trattoria and Mykonos just past where the road doglegs. We started with entrees of Salmon Tartare and Garlic Snails on a bed of mushrooms with pesto sauce. Followed with pasta with a beautiful duck breast sauce, my husband choosing steak saying it was fantastic. Finished off with a lovely Cream Brulee. Food was fresh andmenu varied enough for anyone to find something to their liking. The cost was somewhere in the vicinity of $24 (AUD) for us as a couple - so cheap for the food we were eating.
Soho Jl Laksmana - Typical American Style 24-hour joint. Eggs Benedict. Calamari and Spaghetti and Meatballs. We both finished off with Cheesecake. Total 170,000 ($23).
Taste -Jl Laksmana. 2 restaurants, next door to each other. Meal was basic but enjoyable, service was exceptional. French Onion Soup, Duck Fillets, Spinach Ravioli. Total 139,000 ($19). Complimentary Salmon Pate on arrival. LOVED the food- 1 iced lemon tea, 1 bottle of Aqua, 1 Vanilla Milkshake, 1 Garlic Bread, Pumpkin Ravioli, Garlic Prawn with roasted vegetables and rice, and Local Tenderloin with roasted vegetables and potato au gratin - Rp 165,000 ... The escargots are delish! So is the beef stroganoff... local tenderloin plate, is only Rp 45,000!
Tekors Bali - Legian Beach Walk.
Teras pizza Jl Legian Seminyak
The Living Room Near La Luciola Great $52AUD for 4 with $10 corkage
The Metro Jl Laksmana - New. Advertised as serving Aussie Roasts and screening Footy and Cricket on the big screen. Salt & Pepper Squid, Seafood Skewers, Bangers & Mash and a couple of cocktails. Total 210,000 ($28). Snooker table in the bar area.
Tommys- Jln. Werkudara ( Rum Jungle )
This is a deceiving and basic café that has been around a few years. There is an introduction page at the beginning of the menu advising they have home made pickles, sauces , jams & dressings and that they do takeaways. In past years we have sent messages back from the beach and our corn meat, tomato & pickle sandwiches have been delivered. The early morning traffic at 9 was no distraction. The décor is very basic and the few pot plants break the monotony of the older building. Service sweet and staff eager to please. A basic menu although 4 or so pages. Bacon & eggs 20,000 Wheet bix 10,500 Croissants 13,500 to 17,500 Salad Roll (cheese+5000) 18,000 Chip sandwich 15,000 Most juices 8,000 Imported teas 7,000
Trattoria Cucina Italiana Restaurant, they also have a Pizza shop too (Jl Laksmana - really cheap Italian) always-jam-packed establishment. BBQ Octopus x 2, Ravioli, Tuna Steak. Total 200,000 ($27). Complimentary basket of bread slices and bread sticks and shots of something quiet potent at the end of your meal. Ultimo has a newer more hip vibe, but tratoria has slightly more authentic food.
Ultimo - Jl Laksmana
Sensational Italian restaurant (more expensive than the nearby Trattoria, but I think the food is much better quality). We had a nice meal of share entrée of beef carpaccio, hubby had a steak and I tried the fresh lobster ravioli, followed by ice-cream. Had a few cocktails and a glass of red each, total cost ~250,000 Rp.
Two appetizers, filet minion, desert, and a decent (not great) bottle of wine all of $22 for two.....hard to beat. Ultimo has a newer more hip vibe, but Trattoria has slightly more authentic food.
# Venue @ The Moon -Jl Laksmana. We opted for the tapas menu and chose Spring Rolls, Prawn Rolls, BBQ Octopus, Calamari and Wedges. All of these items were equally delicious. Total 220,000 ($30). A really fun night out when they have a band. Lots of dancing and singing, but a real family feel to the place.
Veranda restaurant - next to LIPS/Bintang Supermarket in Seminyak. Great steaks.
Warung Asia Gang off Jl 66. Thai. 9 tables. Next to Jiwa Spa. Cheap. Good, gets booked out.
Warung Ocha's, Jl Raya, Seminyak. Indonesian. Fabulous.
Warung Gossip, Kerobokan. Jl Pengubengan, Kalih. Nice setting. 25.000- meal with drink. Turn off opposite jail. 1km.
Warung Italie. Jl Kunti No2, Seminyak + 62 - 0361 -737 437. It is on the right hand side of the street just a short distance from Jalan Legian. Italian owned. I believe he opened another place in Legian on the beach earlier this year
-very cheap and good food. Popular. Different types of Italian food in a large hot display cabinet. Choose what you want ( you can have a portion of lasagne, calamari etc- tallied up on a card and pay at the end. Not bad wine too. Go up to the counter & point out what you want. The food is continually being turned over because it is so busy. It is kept warm in very hot Bain Maries. I am usually hesistant to eat food out of Bain Maries but this place is so busy new food is continually coming out from the kitchen - that you can see through to. The food is very cheap & so are the drinks. Book or get there early because it gets packed out & people are often standing out on the footpath waiting to get in. Very popular with expats Wednesday night. Well patronized by locals. The food is absolutely delicious. Make sure you leave room for deserts.
Warung Murah towards the beach end of 66. Terrific Indonesian food served as in a Padang warung in that you just point to what you want. There is a bain marie with maybe 6 or so dishes and a glass cabinet with many meals. Very busy, quick turnover of food, many meals enjoyed there.
Warung Padma Indah (near MBR) Indonesian buffet excellent.
Warung Sobat. Jl Batu Belig. Bali Sani Suites Hotel. 0816-578924 http://warungsobat.tripod.com/05sobat.html On right 100m before beach. North of Living Room. Pak Made- Wife Kadek. Closed Saturday. great place owned by John from WA,he will pick you up if locally
Anitas Warung used to be on the beach but is now in South Sanur near Sanur Beach Hotel and Trophy pub somewhere. My favourite sate and pepes ikan,
Annas Warung on Sundays in the main street has a very good roast lunch for 45,000. It is run by an Aussie guy named Stan and his wife Anna. Beer there is also cold. It is between Hardys and the Sindu Markets, opposite Besakih Hotel.
Apa Kabar JL. Danau Tamblingan No. 190 Sanur - phone 282153
There rijstafel was the best I have ever eaten, think the price was 70 000Rp for the 2 people and it was more then we could eat. And our daughter loved the satays too. And the drink prices are cheap also. They also have free pick up from your hotel, you just call for them to pick you up.
Arri's Café Jl Pantai Sindu No.7 Bonsai Restaurant
Benno's. Sindhu Beach. Great food, great toilets.
Bobbies on beach, cheap
# Bonsai (We walked through the bonsai garden from the road. Most impressive. From the beach it looks pretty plain but the service was great, as was the food. We sat on the sand but had to move inside due to a sudden downpour (you know the ones). Grilled snapper with salad and rice- 52.000 + 10% service charge.)
Cafe Jepun Intersection of Jl Danau Tamblingan and Jl Kesumasari in south Sanur. Lovely food and atmosphere.
ClayPot. Good Indian food at the southern end near the Hyatt.
Corridor- The food was absolutely fantastic & the best presentation. The best brecky you could ask for is the Corridor special if you can eat it all. Rp.20,000 for fruit juice, 2 eggs, 2 slices toast, fruit platter, pancake & coffee. Lunch & dinner meals are the best & reasonable prices.
Donalds restaurant- , right down other end of Sanur beach. We had a bottle of white wine with us, and there was no corkage charge, we both had seafood for less than 80,000rph in total.
Gateway of India, Sanur liked it very much on all counts. Food/service/ambience/price
Grumpy's Pub. Jl By pass. Steak, veges/salad- 42,000.
Kami Sama (on the beach) - excellent authentic indo dishes that are becoming harder to find as restaurants bland out to suit western tastes. Chicken salad (Siap Maduh Sambal I think it was called) was my favourite. Made from shredded roast chicken with lemongrass, lime leaves, shallot, chilli and lime juice. All the fish dishes we had were also excellent (satay lilit on lemongrass sticks the best).
Kesuma. one kilometre south of Donalds. The beer is 7,000 per small bottle and is normally cold. Fresh fish is 6,000 per hundred grams.
Lazer Coffee Shop and Bakery.
Lumut in Sanur, fab, fab, - Always enjoy the ambience in the back area of the restaurant and food is excellent.
Mezzanine Excellent, good value
Mykanos Greek Restaurant.
Retro. I was put off by the seemingly french inspired menu at the front door and I thought they had sold out but I'm glad we checked it out a bit further. Tasty food and cheap cocktails served by staff who are genuinely interested in your enjoyment. Lychee martini and pina coladas were good at 25,000 and the nasi campur was very good.
SeaHorse. Next door to the Claypot with the same owner. Good fresh seafood and spicy dishes.
Sanur Night Market- Try the local food in the night market at Sanur.I believe Warung Java stall is the best and quite a few Dutch tourists make for this particular outlet. The market shuts down at about 10pm.
Suni- Indian Restaurant. Opposite the north end of the Hyatt, run by an Indian chap. Food there is great. The place still has old sign out the front carrying the name Melanie. Next to it same guy has a fresh seafood restaurant. The fish are actually swimming in glass tanks. Beer is cold there as well.
The Village - Massimo Sacco's Restaurant. Jl Danau Tamblingan, out front of the access road to Vila Shanti and Griya Santrian hotels. Italian. home made pasta. Across from Besakih Hotel. Excellent. $15 per head including TiramisuAn Italian influence. Lovely ambience, terrific food, good service. Best risotto I have ever had

Bali Epeh Jl Pratama Ph 778-185 Excellent food + cocktails.
Bumbu Bali Jl Pratama Nusa Dua. Ph 774-502
Upmarket, pricey . They also run cooking classes 3 days a week. I can't tell you the specific dishes, but it ended up being quiet a Balinese feast. The food was delicious but spicy, be warned. Total 270,000 ($37). The setting of this place is quiet magical. Although I think Sate Bali would give it a run for its money in the food stakes. The couple we went with actually ate at Sate Bali later in their holiday and apologised for dragging us over to the other side of the island after they realised they could get just the same (if not better) quality just up the road.
The restaurant is beautiful and the food is to die for. All authentic Balinese dishes, presented in the most spectacular way. Quite expensive but well worth the money. Meals - Chicken with chilli - 40,000rp (entrée)
Chicken with lemongrass - 40,000rp (entrée) Sate campur - 50,000rp Chicken in spiced coconut - 60,000rp
Mixed desserts - aneka hidangan penutup - 40,000 Returned several times. My rating 10/10
Coco bistro- Opposite the Aston which is next to Peninsula Resort. Busy restaurant. I arrived at 7. There were 2 tables full. By 8 there were people waiting for a table. There are about 16 tables. There is a small stage where they have Balinese dancers or live music. Food was lovely. I had vegetable lasagna (33.000) which was very nice. 15% tax and service added.
Kecak Bali (same owners as Bumbu Bali but cheaper)
# La Scala restaurant - Tanjung Benoa Jalan Pratama (opp Grand Mirage Hotel) Opposite the Grand Mirage Hotel. Free transport local area, lights in trees out front, live band most nights, roof shaped like the sails of the Sydney opera house.. Meals - Enchiladas - about 40,000rp
Nyalan Restaurant Buala Village
Nyomen's Beer Garden: Pantai Mengiat, Nusa Dua Free transport in local area German owner.
A hit with the German tourists, as it serves German dishes (as well as the usual Indo and International fare). It was full to bursting every night, with a queue waiting to get in at peak times. Meals are very cheap, and there is entertainment most nights. On 3 nights a week the chef (who owns several other restaurants in Kuta) walks around the tables chatting to customers.
Meals - Curried German Sausages - 34,000rp Nasi Goreng - 30,000rp Friccandels - 32,00rp
My rating - 8/10 If you dare try the lobster(you have to order it 24 hours in advance) and the owner actually cooks it and puts his special sauce on it. We had it and it was worth every penny, it was the best lobster I ever had - it was the sauce that did it!
Papillion- opposite Peninsula Resort. Small place with a green wall surrounding it so it's not easy to see. Food is great, staff lovely. Yani used to work in Kori's. I had the cheese soufflé (22.000) which was delicious. If you want it though order it as soon as you arrive because it takes 20 minutes to make. Fish was great. Good cappuccino too.
Santorini's Jalan Pratama (opp Conrad Hotel) Free transport in local area
