Friday 10 August

Woke up at about 9am feeling rather shabby. My stomach was doing sommersaults. After a few more visits to the bathroom I decided this was not how the trip was suppose to start so it was time to soldier on. Made the huge 6 step voyage to breakfast and attempted to digest the first of many omeletes. Unfortunately I have to admit defeat on this attempt.

I decided it was time to be a little more adventurous and navigate my way to the Circle K diagonally across from the Barong Hotel and stock up on the usual supplies. Laden down with bottles of aqua and coke I headed back to my room to offload from this huge shopping expedition.

As I don't take any clothing to Bali, I had an instant excuse to head out in search of my new wardrobe for the next couple of days. To my absolute enjoyment I actually didn't need an excuse to do anything this trip as I was on my own. Bliss!

Hijacked the first blue cab that came up Poppies 11 as I stepped foot into the lane and headed off to Carrefore for some other necessities. I also wanted to see what all the hype was about. Well it's big, white, new, has shops. I'm not one for the big malls anywhere so not really my thing. I did however stop in at Periplus to arm myself with the Bali street directory. Note to self, do not go in bookstores it always costs so much. Needless to say I ended up asking the girls to push me out the front and lock the doors after 1.5 million. I picked up some fantastic books though. Even thought of the kids and bought them 3 more Indonesian children's books to add to their already growing collection.

From here I made my way up to the top floor to grab some toiletries etc. While taking the escalators up I got chatting to the guy who cleans the mirrors on the ceilings above the escalators. He was such a friendly, chatty guy. He was telling me how all day he rides the escalators while cleaning the mirrors. Just a few minutes looking up at them while talking was enough for me. It is definitely a pain in the neck of a job he has but he is very proud of what he does.

Trudged around the supermarket/department store on the upper floor and loaded myself up with everything I needed before high tailing it out of there and back to the Barong to offload once again. As I still didn't find that designer wardrobe I was looking for I settled on picking up a couple of items from Poppies 11 to get me by. Popped down to see Fast Eddy as he has always been good in the past. Well don't know what happened there but all I will say is - I won't be back.

About now I would usually be giving you the lunch report but as my tummy was not up for the challenge meals were very limited over the next couple of days. Pampering oneself was looking to be a far better option at this point. Once again jumped in a cab and made my way to Melasti Spa for a 4 hour package. Now I have had a few basic massages but that's it, nothing anywhere near what I experienced here.

What can I say - why the **** haven't I done this before? How many do I think I could get away with if hubby and the kids were here?

The package I had included a 1 hour body massage, body scrub and lulur, a flower bath, 1 hour neck and shoulder massage and concluded with a 1 hour foot massage. I had emailed prior to arriving in Bali and obtained prices etc and made sure to print this out. I'm glad I had when it came time to pay as the price had increased considerably until I produced the email. Everything sorted very quickly though and I was on my way back to the hotel.

As I was feeling rather off I decided to make a quick call home and head to bed. Hubby was shocked to hear I was heading to bed at 6.30 pm and stated I must have been ill. A quick chat with the kids and I settled into bed.

Well this didn't last too long I must say. I think I layed there for about an hour before I heard a group of 4 girls chatting and laughing in the garden area of the hotel. I decided to pull myself together and go out and introduce myself and see if I could join them.

Introductions done I was quickly made part of the group game they were playing. They had made up a drinking game with a deck of cards and proceeded to fill me in on the rules. Each person was named an Australian animal and had different tasks they performed depending on the card. All night you could only refer to each other as the animal name or you had to scull your drink. Well it goes without saying that I learnt their names very quickly as I was not planning on getting drunk. It was great fun and many laughs were had.

At about 10.30 pm the girls decided it was time to head off to the Bounty nightclub for the foam party. Yes, I was dragged kicking and screaming all the way there. We started off the night in the karaoke section taking over the stage. It got to the point that when they requested singers and we put our hands up, they asked if there was anyone else who wanted to sing. Don't know what they were trying to tell us as I was sober after all.

After our rejection we headed upstairs to the foam party. Well, I know, I'm married with kids (one who is 13) but this inner child just lept out and took control and before I knew it I was in the foam pit covered in foam. Every time I tried to get out there was an invisible shield holding me in so I was forced to have a great time. Well, kind of anyway. LOL

More on the Bounty to follow as the night has only just began.
