Now I'm a bit stuck about how to post this without putting a vulnerable young boy at risk from exploitation by the sleaze bags that cruise the internet, although I think he may be streetwise enough to look after himself.
so....here's my best attempt. I remember a few years back forumites were looking after a stray beach dog near S&S so it occurs to me that maybe some of us might like to extend the hand of friendship to a young boy from Java who's story I won't share randomly with all and sundry but suffice it to say he 14/15 and alone in Bali.
The Anak Pantai (beach boys) in the area at the back of Zanzibar are looking after him buying him rice and chicken or bakso from the sellers and mostly he stays with them. They are trying to explain to him that he needs to do any odd jobs he can get and mostly he sleeps at one of their places. He's a bit small by the looks of it to be physically able to drag beach chairs up and down the beach so it really is only odd jobs he can get and of course being a young boy he isn't really very good with money.
I didn't want to give him money because I agree that he probably is better to learn quickly that he needs to do any odd job he can get until he is a little older and bigger so I left a set of clothes with one of the Anak Pantai to give to him.
What I'm asking is if any of you come across him at one of the 2 beach eskys at the back of Zanzibar it might be nice to have a chat with him at least and maybe and ice cream or one of the little packets of rice + whatever they sell from bicycles there. Maybe if a few people treat him nicely and take an interest he might feel a bit better about himself. A Canadian guy left money with one of the boys for him to go to school but they are having problems getting him to go so better not to leave or give money maybe. Teenage rebellion I think and he has had a very rough ride.
