from a financial point of view - you are better off to fly with Garuda. Jetstar tickets most of the time work out to be about $50-$100 less, but once you factor in meal, blanketpack, entertainment and excess luggage (jetstar is strictly 20kg- 500g over and they sting you, or you can pre purchase excess when you buy your ticket) it all works out to be the same. Except Garuda seats are a little larger and spacier.

Garuda dont have the best record for being on time and safety of late, however Jetstar's on time rep isn't as great either.

Crew - well apparently jetstar have just been voted 'australias best airline crew' however i've heard some terrible reports - but then again same with garuda. The standard of the crew and aircraft is really just pot luck I think.

If you can get a really really cheap ticket on Jetstar - fly with them, but otherwise I would fly garuda. I'm a patriotic Aussie, but Indonesia needs all the help it can get lately.

Happy travels.
