Last time I was in Bali was in 2005. I found that you could buy the cheap battery operated Rolex's etc for about $5 a pop. Whilst the good quality 'automatic' crystal glass etc ones were around the $50 mark. - in KUTA
What I found was that the bigger the store, or the better the location, the watches usually cost more.
I bought a couple of really good quality automatic Oyster Perpetuals in a store down the bottom of Monkey Forest road in Ubud. Although the store didn't have a huge selection. I did pay 1800rp each, which was around $23 dollars a piece.
The same watch I would have had to pay a good $50 dollars for if I bought it say at Kuta square etc.
Obviously it's all about the haggling ; but I did find that more expensive looking shops had higher prices, I guess due to the higher rent the owner has to pay..
