I have read all of the many many posts regarding 'to swim or not to swim' over many months in fact probley closer to a year. After reading the fores and againsts and the many links that have been given, I believe it is now a 'catch 22':- if nobody was ever to swim with them again what would happen to them? How would the hotel afford to feed them and care for them with out the tourist dollars? What would happen to them if they were released, how long would they survive in the wild?
However, as they are kept in captivity and have no way out as such, it could be seen as a benefit to the dolphins to interact with humans seeing as so much is written on how close 'we' are to them. If the rescued one with no teeth has no hope of ever being capable of surviving in the wild then surely he is better off where he is and has the enjoyment of interacting with humans and more importantly receiving daily food?
My daughter swam with them in at Seaworld in Australia and said it was the most awesome experience ever. What makes Bali any different from any where else in the world to swim with them?
