At the Legian Markets in Jl Melasti (which we called the dirt markets cause it was so dusty at the time). With friend and husband who were first time to Bali and absolutely loving it. We thought we would be lucky if he liked it a bit, but he loved everything about Bali - even the pushy street sellers. While wandering around looking at t-shirts, etc., someone let off some firecrackers. Now this was in 89 so well before tragedy with bombs. We've turned around to look for Trev and there he was flat on the ground. The old Army training had instinctively kicked in and he heard a 'bang' and went for ground. His wife and I were doubled over laughing - as were most of the market shop owners! He got up, dusted himself off, and went on shopping like the trooper he was
