Our party of four often lunched around the pool. When confronted by a number of lounge chairs "reserved" by towels, I would pick up the towels and ask in a loud voice if the owner was present. If there was no answer, I would place the towels neatly on the ground and we would occupy the chairs.
To be fair, if the "owner" turned up within (say) 15 minutes, I would vacate the chair. Nine times out of ten we would bask for about two hours with no sign of the offending towel owners.
