I was talking to my mum last night and mentioned this to her, she's also an old midwife, she said she would give us (her kids) a dose when we were sick, swore by it.
Modern medicine has certainly come a long way but I agree that some of the old stuff is good to know about.
Mum says its still used in a lot of the poorer countries, guess we are lucky to have such a good modern system in place here. That is of course unless you get sick and need to go to a hospital which has no staff or beds available. We had a huge write up in our paper yesterday, WA is so short of nurses and they say that in the next 10 years a great deal of the current nurses will retire. Personally I haven't worked in a hospital for a few years, I don't have to work the shifts, get paid well and am respected (ever worked in A&E on a saturday night?). Mr Howard needs to address our public health system now. (I'll get off my soap box now)
Cheers
