Your Orthopaedic consultant was correct. If you are prescribed orthotics you have a specific problem and your feet are cast and the orthotics are manufactured to try and help this. You should try wear them all the time.
Obviously some mass produced products do offer more support than a standard shoe but cannot cater to everyones individual problem.
