We got back last weekend from Bali and went via Melbourne, which meant not only the additional cost of internal flights to Melbourne, but an overnight stay at a Melbourne hotel on the way over. Because we love Bali, we did it, but for those who don't know how wonderful it is, there must be many other destinations which seem just as attractive. Our travel agent tried to get us on an equivalent Perth flight, but it was fully booked - in February for July. Oh well it won't stop us from going, but it is definitely a shame and won't attract newcomers.
