for where the locals eat.

As most customers take their food away it will appear to be small and often will be out-of-the-way, but they will probably sell a lot of food, often more than a warung with a lot of tables and chairs. They will serve about 10 different dishes and these will usually be in a display cabinet protected from flies. You just have to point to the dishes that you want.

Usually I get 4-5 different dishes, spooned onto a bed of rice.

Cost is from RP5000 to RP8000. and the food is fantastic, much better than you would get in a warung for RP30,000 to RP40,000.

Note that there are often lunch and dinner places: its not a good idea to eat at the lunch place for dinner as you will be getting the tired unsold food prepared for lunch.

Also, don't worry about hygiene as they serve the locals and will get instant feedback if they serve up anything that causes problems.

Each of these places usually cycles through a range of dishes during the week, and although they are Indo standards they are all done somewhat differently so there is a great variety.

Happy dining!
