The temple on the lake is called Pura Ulun Danu and sits on the edge of Lake Bratan, in the Bedugul region. Yes it is a tranquil location, depending upon the time of day you visit, as it is popular with the tourists! Often it has cloud hanging over the surrounding mountains, which add to the atmosphere. I have only ever walked around it, not approached it by boat, so I'm no help re hiring a boat.

A bit further down the road is the Candi Kuning market which is worth stopping for a look.

The drive up there is lovely and you can get some stunning views from the side of the road or from some of the hillside restaurants along the way.
