Hi I'm a newbi at this great forum but not new to Bali. First visited for our honeymoon 31years ago (Yes Im an oldie) and fell in love with Bali. Stayed 14 day at Tjampuhan Ubud. Back then Ubud was little more that a village and what the unspoiled Bali was realy like. Tjampuhan was fantastic with no electricity, no running water (hot or cold). The shower was a camping canvas type that you pulled up via a rope and pulley. The resturant was an open pavillion with a unwritten rule that a new table was never started until the one being filled up was full. Very friendly atmosphere prevailed. Back then traveling around on motor bike was easy and safe (wouldn't try it now).
We have been back 6(?) times since, so have watched the changes as the years have passed to both Bali and the Tjampuhan (always spend some time there as we love it so much).
But even with all the changes we still love the Island and the Baliness people and it will alway be our prefered holiday destination. So inexpensive and relaxing. No need to do a lot of the tourist things anymore but mainly just R&R.
Enough of my rambling, I'll better get to my question.
We are planning another trip in Jan 07 and read recently that the beach resturants on Gilli T (Lombok) were going to be pulled down by the army. Has this happend or still going to happen? We have never visited Lombok or the Gilli's but if the restuatant have gone we will reconsider staying a couple of nights on GT and just visit from Lombok for a day.
