Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the connective tissue (fascia) that supports the arch of your foot, resulting in stabbing pain in the heel. It is often worse when you first stand on it after sitting/lying down as the inflammed fascia is stretched as you weight-bear. It has nothing to do with warts or calluses.

It is a good idea to flex the foot up & down at the ankle a few times before you stand on it to gently stretch the fascia, especially if you've been sitting down for a lenthy period. A really good pair of runners with shock-absorbing soles is also helpful. I got some Brooks walking shoes from Athlete's Foot to wear for work which cost a bomb but they are worth every penny! I tried orthotics, but found them too hard & unforgiving. You might have better luck with them.

After getting really good shoes & doing the flexing exercises, my pain eventually went away without any other treatment after about three months.

Good luck.
