I know my thinking is a bit off the wall sometimes. What I mean is that superficially just about everything has changed but if you scratch the surface much of their culture is still exactly the same.
eg. Nyoman may call his Mum on his mobile to her mobile to say he is running a little late because the traffic is particularly bad today but that he will be home in time for the ceremony.
What's different is that they actually have mobile phones and Nyoman is riding his motorbike not the local Bemo. What, importantly, is the same is that Nyoman would still today not in his wildest dreams think of missing a ceremony if is humanly possible for him to get there.
