we hired a car and drove from Kanchanburi to Phuket, then flew to Koh Samui with the kids, and saw lots in between. I think it is very sad when people go to only the tourist areas in Thailand then compare it to Bali, Thailand is beautiful and the people there are lovely, but as the others say it is so different, you should not try to compare them.
If you go to Phuket make sure you pick the right time of the year for your weather, when it's good in Phuket it's bad in Samui, and visa versa.
Last year my husband went to BALI (first time since Thailand) I text him "Bali or Thailand" and he text back "wait till I get to Ubud" when I finally got the answer it was " Don't know"
This will be my first trip back to Bali since Thailand, and the kids have not been to Bali so I can't wait to see what they think.
