For chains etc, I would go to Jalan Hassanudin in Denpasar.
This is the street where there are around 20 gold shops (Toko Mas) in a row, and plenty of locals buying for ceremonial or financial protective reasons (declining rp)
Choose the purity that you want (say 70% for instance is around 16-18 carat) and get a price per gram, so you can compare weights and prices at the various shops (weights and purity are marked on the little labels)
TAKE NOTES as you go because they all look similar, and you may not find what you spotted earlier as OK.
Take a calculator.
Always ask if that is "best price"
The shop in Kuta square, on the acute corner is a little more expensive, and has stuff more in the European style (OK for pendants etc), but chains are much the same wherever.
