We've not yet been to Bali (May 2008) but took our first daughter to Fiji when 14 months and the Solomon Islands when 2 (which involved three separate flights). She will never sleep on a big plane (although did fall asleep on a massively noisy 8-seater Islander!) We bought this magnetic 'Maisy Mouse' fold up board thing which pictures the rooms in a house and which comes with lots of little magnetic shapes of furniture, clocks, cups and things like that and both times it kept her entertained for some surprisingly long stretches at a time. In the end neither trip was a nightmare.
