"On my few trips to Bali there has often been an uncomfortable and puzzling pause after speaking with Balinese for a while and after saying, "bye," to show i was leaving. All was made clear on this trip. I was advised by a Balinese to say, "Om, Santi, Santi, Santi, Om," to signify i was ending a long conversation. The response i received on following his advice was always to see the other person's face light up, before they said it also and we could both turn away from the conversation in perfect harmony."
