If you were after the opposite of the experience you had you should have researched it a little more and maybe gone and stayed on the quieter parts of the island or maybe visited Lombok and the Gillis.
When i did the obligatory aussie 'tour of duty' in england for 3 years i often told my english friends that bali was not worth a 15 hour flight.
But i did travel there with some english friends and showed them then bali i love - quiet, serene, genuinly lovely people who are happy in what we consider poverty.
Not sure what you expected in a tourist area (Nusa Dua) on a seriously tourist driven island !!!
But i reckon it is good to see a balance on this forum especially as it can often be so blinkered - someone else's paradise is not often yours !!
