Mum and i where picked up and taken to the Helen Flavell Foundation Learning Centre where we where meet by Mr John who showed us through the Centre. Was really impressed with the set up. We then went on our way with our driver and Mr John to firstly call into a market and i bought some food for my sponcer boys family. Just the normal Rice, herbs, washing powder, toothpaste ect. Spent about $60.00 Aust. Had allready been to Hardys the day before and bought a little back pack and put a towel, toothbrush and a yo yo and a couple of other things in it. Also bought the mum a set of plastic type bowls which i thought would be helpfull. We headed to his home at Singaraja which isnt far from Lovina. I meet him and he was a very shy little boy. Kids came out of the woodwork. I had a heap of my kids hats so they all went to the kids. Meet his mum and his father was at work.
The Yo Yo got a smile out of him. The standard of living was as you would expect. We stayed and had a chat and meet more of the extended family. Mr John was very good in explaining things to us and was a lovely young man.
I have read quite a bit on people doing lots more for there sponcer childs family but felt that i would not like to do heaps then not be in a position to help or sponcer him the next time. So i felt i had helped out a little and will continue to maintain my sponcership. We then went back to the Learning Centre and dropped Mr John off. A little chap appeared out of nowhere spotless, looked as if he had just had a bath.
Gosh he was a character. I carn't remember his name but he told me who his sponcer was and we had a good old chat in English.
It was a shame it was school holidays but never mind next time will have to time it better.
So that was our visit.
Regards
Leonie
