what you buy upstairs at airport does not count. But if you buy duty free in Australia (I am talking from Perth experience), take it to Bali and then want to bring as hand luggage again on way back - you can't. Both ways you can only bring as hand luggage what you have bought at that particular airport. A bunch of guys got in a lot of trouble with Bali cops when we were leaving about that stuff!!
