I experienced Idul Fitri at MBR in 2003 and would NEVER visit Bali again during this time and certainly not at MBR. It's a very popular hotel with domestic tourists, with a 50% off special for them at this holiday. The hotel was full to overflowing. Breakfast was a nightmare, with many of the local tourists being pushy and rude (pushing in line, no manners, spitting etc), and they would fill up tupperware containers with food from the buffet to take away for teh day (and yes, there are signs saying not to take food from the restaurant at breakfast), so most of the food trays were empty a lot of the time.

A lot of traffic in and out of the hotel as they all drive over from Java and use their cars to travel around. The streets are clogged with traffic through Legian/Kuta/Tuban area. It's quicker to walk from one end of town to the other than to take a taksi - no exaggeration - Jl Legian was all but at a standstill.

Most stores seemed to be open for the duration as Balinese don't have any holiday at this time. So it aws really just those operated by Javanese (muslims) who would go to their homes to visit family - so mostly sarong shops in Jl Double 6 all closed, and many tailors were closed for around 5 days as well.

Ramadan itself was no impact, but Idul Fitri was horrible. I would never go back at that time, myself.
