The first thing you need to work out is whether you want to go the full monty and spend AUS$250+ each at a spa attached to one of the better hotels or come back a bit in price and try for an independent location.
I tend to find that the treatments are often not that different but when you do pay extra you get the better quality ingedients, luxury design of the villas and gardens and the small little extra's that do add up to something special if that is what you are looking for.
As for the better hotel spa's I recommend the following:
* "Spa at Maya Ubud" at the Maya Ubud Resort & Spa in Ubud
* "The Spa" at "The Legian" hotel in Seminyak
* "Jiwa Spa" at "Conrad Resort Bali" over at Tanjung Benoa (Nusa Dua)
For independent spa's that offer good value for money try:
* "Jari Menari" in Seminyak
* "Prana Spa" in Seminyak
* "Bodyworks" in Petitenget (across from the temple near La Lucciola)
Personally if it is a very special occasion and you are happy dropping AUS$250.00 each, then a day at "The Spa Maya Ubud" would not leave you feeling disappointed, especially since you can then use their incredible pool and restaurant at the spa to strech the day out.
