Bali long term?

I am seriously considering the possibility of moving to Bali for 6 months to a year to test out the waters for the future. Any knowledge/ideas/experiences on if this is possible appreciated or is the only alternative to fly home every 60 days to renew my visa? I am quite a few years off retirement age.
