Yesterday dawned much the same as most days do in Bali. A clear sky with that early touch of warmth. The only difference being that a group of cobbers had turned up on their annual pilgrimage to Bali. Now these guys are right into culture, the only trouble is that their culture involves the Australian Rules Football.
So at 12 o'clock we were gathered at The Bali Senia Hotel in Sanur to watch The Geelong-Sydney match. A few contributors on this site reckon that you can watch Australian Rules Football at a variety of places in Bali, but in fact there are only about 6 places here that regularly telecast all games live.
One thing about watching football is that it seems to be impossible to view a game without having a beer. The going rate appears to be 2 beers per quarter and one during the half time break. So we breezed through the first game (9 beers) and then settled in for the Fremantle-Carlton game.
We seemed to have safely negotiated this game as well (now 18 beers) When on came Brisbane and Port Adelaide. This was also going really well at the half time break (23 beers)when the Australia-New Zealand rugby game commenced on another television.
This is when it got confusing, Rugby only has 2 halves, so how many beers do you get to drink during a rugby game? Especially if it is being shown in conjunction with an Australian Rules game? I was hit with this dilemma just when my mind was least ready for it!!
Anyway, I woke up in my bed this morning! How the hell I got there, I do not know. My little darling (Irma) smiled at me and quietly suggested that it may be a prudent if I did not to stand up on the motorbike seat again.
On a positive note the mighty Eagles are playing Adelaide today, so it is back down to the Bali Senia at 12 noon for another meeting. The owner (Pete)puts on a damn good Sunday roast lunch, so we may even go that one step further and attempt to eat some food today.
Cheers Ron.
