for this excellent overview.

From reading various threads on Melka, I understand that one of the captive dolphins was rescued, in a pitiful state, from almost certain death, and has now improved in health to some extent. I don't think, however, that this justifies using the captive dolphins in the way they are currently being used.

I've never been to Melka and don't feel drawn to go there. And no way could I swim with these poor creatures, it would just make me feel so sad. But if I was in Lovina, I would feel inclined to give a few dollars towards the upkeep of the animals in general. [But the sun bear shouldn't be there at all, this is a disgrace.] But, knowing Bali, how would no-strings-attached donations be used? Would it be seen as just another opportunity to keep captive animals for no other reason than for profit?

I'm sure that many of us are learning a lot from the Melka threads.
