with customs in Singapore. Between the four of us we had at least 150 dvds which we put in our check-in suitcases and didn't declare them (I don't think you had to). We were more concerned about paying excess baggage - all of our luggage was overweight (two weighed over 30kgs) from all of our shopping in Bali and then again in Singapore! Fortunately the plane was nowhere near full (152 empty seats) so I assume that's the reason they didn't sting us!
We really only had one security check where they scanned our hand luggage, apart from having to take off our shoes and belts, went through with no problems.
You'll probably see a fair bit in the time you have, regardless of where you stay the public transport is so accessable and cheap. There was still a lot of things we didn't have time to do, like the zoo and the monorail, Santosa and we only touched lightly on Little India.
We chose the stopover on the way home just to break the long trip but whichever way you do it it's a place that you can experience without costing you a lot of money.
