the scenario you propose... lets say the family travel to Bali to bring friend home with them.... they will of course pay ALL relevant charges to avoid a hiccup for the sake of saving 40 bucks or thereabouts!
Say the friend is pretty clued up having never travelled overseas before (he has no passport remember)... so the Aussie family send him the cash, plus pay for the E ticket... and he sails thru check in and Immigration solo.... good lord!! even some of us tourists have dramas with that...
