I have stayed at the Puri (or Villa as it's sometimes called) Madawi, know it very well indeed:
HIGHS
The beach is a stroll away
Spotless rooms with a sharp eye for detail that outclass any other budget accommodation I've found in Bali (barring any of the Alam group of hotels in Ubud (alam jiwa, shanti etc)
LOWS
There's A LOT of building work in the area; though it's far enough from Puri Madawi for you to be unaware of it, there are ugly fences around construction sites and the roads are thick with builders' rubble
Steep steps on the path to the beach are tricky for those less agile or with kids
Watch out for the staff's tendency to call in their friends as taxi drivers: though they're obliging, they're not very professional, and sometimes you really DO need to get where you want to go by a definite time
Apart from breakfast, the cooking is fairly awful.
