On average, Indonesian airlines damage one plane hull beyond repair every 200,000 flights. In Africa, the comparable figure is one loss every 150,000 flights; in the United States it is one loss every 4.5 million flights.
So the chance of being in a serious plane crash in Indonesia is about 22 times greater than in the US.
I fly a lot of shonky flights in Indo, I'll still do it but will worry a lot more now.
