Yes, they have helmets. There was a couple with kids on the tour I did. They were about 10 and 12 years old. They had no problems with the ride. The ride took about two and a half hours to three hours, but we had numerous stops in between. It wasn't dangerous and the staff took great care with the riders, but you do need to be able to use the brakes. They also had a car that followed us on your descent, we could rest in it if need be. I suppose it depends on whether the kids are good riders or not, but I think they would hae no problems.
