Nearly 2 years since last in Bali, and

going back again in May. Previous visit we stayed at Mercure Hotel, opposite the beach at Kuta. No hesitation to stay there again, because it was well appointed and very central. BUT, I'm just aking the informed Forumites for any other suggestions for a nice place between Kuta and Legian on the beachfront strip with a view.
Any good suggestions? Anything new been built along there in the last couple of years?

Also, as the $AUS is pretty good against the $US at the moment, would there be any advantage in taking $US rather than $AUS ?? ie; buying $US in Australia before we go, and exchanging that in Bali rather than exchanging $AUS.
