take cash and leave in safety dep.box. First two trips we took trav.cheques but they are a pain as you need to have your passport with you when you cash them.
Cash is easy and as long as your notes are in good condition they are easy to change.I always take $100 notes and then just change as needed.
A lot of forumites take cash and also their atm cards.
I take my visa card as a backup. Have never had any problems.
