I have 2 children which are the same ages as your children and have been going to Bali regularly since they were toddlers. My children are used to the Balinese people and enjoy having a chat to them. They do not poke or pull them, and I have no problems with my children interacting in every day things such as shopping etc.

If you have girls and their hairs long you will be asked "you want hair braided" but that's nothing to worry about as hair braiders are naturally going to ask this for some business, but a simple no thanks and keep walking is all you have to do if you are not interested.

My children love to come shopping and my husband and I have taught them how to haggle, which the balinese find very amusing. I think it's great to give them the experience and insight into these things and because they have been so many times to Bali they are comfortable with the surroundings and the people, including the street sellers.

The Balinese love children and have a lot of respect for them. And my children adore Bali.

My tip would be Don't lose you temper, as this is not the way to react in Bali. Inform your children that they dont have to take notice to everyone in the streets who says 'Hello' as 'Hello' is usually a line to get your attention, just keep walking and go about your own business. If going shopping at markets decide what you are looking for to buy before you venture out to make purchases.

Another tip would be relax and be happy while in Bali, then your children will feel the same and enjoy their holiday.
