Dear Ms
Thank you for your email of 4 March 2007 regarding the new aviation security measures on the carriage of liquids, aerosols and gels in carry-on baggage for international flights to and from Australia.
From 31 March 2007, Australia's new security measures will restrict the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels able to be taken through the screening point for international flights into and out of Australia.
Liquids, aerosols and gels over 100ml, including duty free, will not be permitted to be taken through the screening point at an Australian international airport, however, you are able to collect or purchase duty free once you have passed through the screening point. Please note, however, that if you are transiting at another country on your journey where liquids, aerosols and gels restrictions apply, you may risk losing any carry-on liquids, aerosols and gels over 100ml at the overseas transit screening point.
For international flights to Australia, you may carry duty free liquid, aerosol and gel purchases on board if they are delivered to the departure gate at the overseas airport in a sealed bag with proof of purchase and collected after you have proceeded through security screening. The application of these procedures may vary from airport to airport and you are advised to check specifics with your airline.
You may also purchase liquid, aerosol and gel duty free items on board an aircraft. Please remember, however, if you are transiting through an Australian international airport, these items cannot be taken through the screening point. You may also purchase liquid, aerosol and gel duty free items at inbound duty free stores at your final destination.
Regarding your bottle of raspberry juice, all liquids, aerosols or gels that you wish to take on board in your carry-on baggage must be in containers of 100ml or less and placed in a transparent, resealable plastic bag of no more than one-litre capacity, for example a 20cm x 20cm or 25cm x 15cm bag. This bag will be inspected at the international airport screening point with your other carry-on baggage. Each passenger is only allowed one plastic bag. Larger amounts of liquids, aerosols and gels should be packed in your checked-in luggage.
I hope this information is of assistance.
Kind regards
