drop duty free, or purchase at liquor outlet on the left after you have come through immigration (may even be cheaper than Aus duty free)
We take one of gin and one of Malibu.
Buy a bottle of cold water and drink it.
When going out, put liquor into bottle (this is where clear liquid has advantages??!!) order fresh fruit juice of your choice, and add your own to make cocktail. (We have never had a negative response from any of the "normal" warung type places when doing this....they are happy for your business.
When all duty free (or whatever) is consumed (I.E. day 3) go to numerous bottle stores (good one close to Secret Garden restaurant) Bintang supermarket etc. and re-stock with spirits at prices cheaper than Aus bottle shop prices.
We have tried their coconut liquor, similar to Malibu, possibly a Bali Moon variant, and this is very good as a mixer as well.
Bottom line is, there are many cost effective options other than buying Bintang. You could even try the boutique Storm beer, a lot more pricey, but also a lot more brewing options than Bintang, with a stout, wheat type and others available.
Good luck with your choices....enjoy.
