I have a relative who works in Australian Customs who says although it is strictly speaking illegal, they don't worry too much about tourists bringing back DVDs in small quantities. If the quantity is large or if they suspect that they are intended for resale (ie multiple copies) then they come down hard.
Be aware that customs people are also ordinary folk who travel themselves and read forums like this one (hi cuz!) both for pleasure and to check on who's doing what. One of the things they are looking for is people who advertise the availability of pirated dvds with lists, addresses of where they can be bought etc. That is probably why the operators of this forum ask that people don't advertise dvd's because they could also get caught in the net if Customs suspects that there is a trade going on.
If you want to buy, do it quietly, don't bring in too much and don't advertise your sources.
