I usually just 'round up' the taxi fare eg if its rp12000, i give them rp15 000 or even rp20 000 if i dont have the change. BUT if i know they have purposely gone the long way just to run the meter up, i give them the exact money.
I usually dont tip in motels BUT as i do alot of shopping, if someone helps carry to and from room then i will usually give them rp5000-10 000 (might not sound much, but its a free meal and drink for them).
Tipping isnt necessary or expect - but we usually just 'round' up the amounts on resturant bills etc.
