As long as orchids are growing in sterile flask there is no problem bringing up to 6 flasks into Oz as long as you declare to AQIS and they check them, more than that needs some paperwork and they won't be checked at the airport. Orchids out of flask need CITES and Phytosanitary Certificates and will be quarantined so not a practical proposition. I often bring flasks down and never been a problem.
