I've got pretty much every guide book available on Bali (and have had previous editions of most too, lol). I'm a bit of a nut for having to have a book to read about Bali when I can't be there.

Of all the main guides available, Lonely Planet still outdo the others. Rough Guide and Eyewitness guides are ok, but usually a little more expensive and not quite as good overall. Lonely Planet have also just put out a "Best of Bali" guide, which is smaller and cheaper than the usual guide. It's much less detailed but gives a general run down of the "best of" in each category - shopping, accomodation, tours etc. It's a great read and lots of photos, but I don't think it's a good alternative to the full guide as far as real information.
