Jetstar is compromising on safety? That's a serious charge. It may be true but I imagine Jetstar would probably quite like to sue a travel agent spreading that. You'd want to make sure it was backed up by something more than rumour.

As for travel agents commissions - I don't feel most deserve them. There may be a few good agents but honestly, given the time I'm prepared to put in researching my own holiday on the internet, it would not be worth any travel agent's while to put that amount of work in so I am always going to come up with better, more interesting off-the-beaten track things than an agent. Partly thanks to forums like this, of course :) But even when I went to Fiji, which doesn't have the benefit of a forum like this, a bit of internet research was able to steer me towards renting a house on an island which most visitors to Fiji have never heard of - something no travel agent would have done. And if all agents can do is show you brochures of the big hotels, why would you bother?
