Hi. We travelled that route in January this year for the first time. Left Legian and travelled up through Tabanan to Papaun where some of the nicest rice terraces are, then stayed the night at Kalibukbuk in Rambutan Cottages. Next morning drove to Labuhan Lalang where we caught a boat with a National Parks Ranger to Menjangan Island. Now I'm not a scuba or snorkelling person, but I was absolutely gobsmacked at what was under the water, all colours and kinds of fish and coral. The island is nothing to look at, in fact if you were sailing by you would'nt give it a second glance. But under the water is something else. Stayed at Mimpi Resort for the night then on to Gilimanuk, drove under a massive statue and had a look through the port area where the crossing is to Java.Security checks but can drive in and have a look. Then drove through Negara where they have ox races. One of the tidiest towns I've seen in Bali, then onto Medewi for a night and next day back to Legian. An interesting trip, probably a bit more to see than the east coast, but we enjoyed that side too. Hope this helps. Cheers Kerrie.
