Frankly I'm surprised Tegal Sari has requested this, because they do a lot of direct bookings and should know that you can't transfer in Rupiah. Sounds like they are trying to be difficult and 'force' you to provide your credit card.
That being said, I also have given my credit card to Tegal Sari before and had no problems.
I transfer money to Indonesia regularly, and quite often need to get the figure as close as possible to the Rp amount. Problem is you don't know what the bank on the other end is going to take out.
I always transfer in AUD. Don't bother to convert to US as then you lose on an unnecessary conversion.
If you transfer to BCA you can count on roughly AUD9 being deducted from the transfer. But someone like BNI takes at least double that. BCA publish their rates daily - go to http://www.klikbca.com/individual/silver/ind/rates.html
